14:16 EDTATVI, MSFT, GME, TTWO, EA, SNEMicrosoft joins Sony in selling over 2M next-gen gaming systems
Microsoft (MSFT) reported that it had sold over 2 million units of its new Xbox One video game consoles, joining its peer Sony (SNE) in passing that milestone. WHAT'S NEW: In a blog post this morning, the tech giant stated that it had sold over 2 million Xbox One consoles worldwide since the product was launched 18 days ago. Sales of the video game console are on a record setting pace, the company added. On December 3, Sony announced that its PlayStation 4 had sold more than 2.1 million units. Note that PS4ís North American debut came on November 15, a week before the Xbox One launched. ANALYST REACTION: Microsoft's announcement bodes well for video game makers Activision Blizzard (ATVI), Electronic Arts (EA), and Take-Two Interactive (TTWO), contended Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian. The news also makes the outlook for video game retailer GameStop more visible, he added. Sebastian has Outperform ratings on Activision Blizzard and GameStop, and Neutral ratings on Electronic Arts and Take-Two. PRICE ACTION: In mid-afternoon trading, Microsoft fell 1.2% to $37.65, Activision dropped 1.1% to $17.13, Electronic Arts gave back 2.5% to $21.50, Take Two lost 0.9% to $16.75, and Gamestop was unchanged at $45.80.
