Sales of Microsoft (MSFT) powered PCs in the four weeks through Nov. 17 dropped 21% from a year earlier, according to research firm NPD Group. Windows 8 was released on Oct. 26. While the bulk of the holiday selling season is still ahead, "clearly, Windows 8 did not prove to be the impetus for a sales turnaround some had hoped for," said Stephen Baker, an NPD vice president.
