MedQuist announced that it has been awarded a contract by SwedishAmerican Health System to provide complete transcription outsourcing and speech recognition editing services to the system's hospital and medical center. The contract also includes acquisition of MedQuist's SpeechQ for Radiology real-time interactive speech recognition system to handle radiology documentation at both SwedishAmerican Hospital and the affiliated FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, Illinois, through the two organizations' joint venture health information technology organization -- TriRivers Health Partners. This announcement is being made in connection with the opening of AHIMA in Grapevine, Texas. In addition, the health system signed a professional services agreement under which MedQuist will perform workflow and dictation process analysis to recommend optimization strategies and "best practices" implementation. :theflyonthewall.com

Spheris announced that it has entered into an agreement under which MedQuist (MEDQ) and CBay, portfolio companies of CBaySystems Holdings, and leading providers of medical transcription software and services, have agreed to purchase substantially all of Spheris' assets pursuant to a transaction that is to be implemented under Section 363 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.  In order to commence the sale process, Spheris and certain of its affiliates filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.  The company expects its operations to continue as usual during the restructuring process.   :theflyonthewall.com
