McDonald's unveiled new packaging designs on all carry-out bags and fountain beverage cups with QR codes. The company said this initiative is the latest step in its ongoing commitment to provide consumers with information to help them make informed choices. A blend of text, illustrations and a QR code will deliver interesting facts about the brand and make nutrition information easily accessible from mobile devices. The launch begins this week in the U.S. and will continue rolling out worldwide through 2013, with the text being translated into 18 different languages.

Since President Obama called for an increase in the federal minimum wage 14 months ago, seven states and Washington, DC have passed such an increase, according to The New York Times. Meanwhile, 34 other state legislatures have started debating the issue and activists in another eight states are looking to get proposals for minimum wage increases on voter ballots, the newspaper stated. Companies that could be affected by minimum wage increases include McDonald's (MCD), Burger King (BKW), Wendy's (WEN), Jack in the Box (JACK), Dunkin Donuts (DNKN), and Sonic Corporation (SONC).
