A report from SpendingPulse, a service of MasterCard Advisors (MA) showed that spending in the two months leading up to Christmas increased by 0.7% from a year ago, a significant disappointment, according to the Wall Street Journal's "Ahead of the Tape." Retailers shares fell, with the S&P Retail Index lagging behind the S&P 500-stock index by 1.3%. From Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve, it already had trailed the broad market by 3.6% as talk of the "fiscal cliff" affected shoppers. Reference Link
