The U.S. Air Force general who runs the F-35 fighter jet program for the Pentagon, Lieutenant General Chris Bogdan, said that he hoped to finalize deals with both Lockheed Martin (LMT) and Pratt & Whitney by the end of May for the next order of fighter planes, according to Reuters, citing comments from Bogdan. Pratt & Whitney is owned by United Technologies (UTX). Reference Link

Lockheed Martin is being awarded a not-to-exceed $147.49M firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed fee, and cost-type-letter contract for low rate initial production and fielding of Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program, or SEWIP, Block 2 systems. SEWIP is an evolutionary acquisition and incremental development program which upgrades existing out-of-production AN/SLQ-32V electronic warfare systems by providing improved electronic support receivers and combat system interface. This contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to $158.79M. Work is expected to be completed by September 2017.

Pentagon chief arms purchaser Frank Kendall said that the U.S. military is getting closer in figuring out how to fix the engine that fuels Lockheed Martin's (LMT) F-35 fighter jet, while Pratt & Whitney said it will pay to retrofit the 156 engines which were already delivered, according to Reuters, citing comments from Kendall. Morgan Stanley said United Technologies underperformance due to China real-estate and Commercial Aero OE outlook are overdone. The firm said Oits China growth is not that impactful and Commercial Aero OE cycle risks are immaterial. The firm believes revenue underperformance will reverse and that consensus estimates are reasonable, positioning shares for outperformance. The firm rates United Technologies an Overweight with a $129 price target.
