The U.S. Navy has awarded funding for the construction of DDG 122, the Fiscal Year 2015 Arleigh Burke-class destroyer under contract at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works. This $610.4M contract modification fully funds this ship which was awarded in 2013 as part of a multi-ship competition for DDG 51 class destroyers. The total value of the five-ship contract is approximately $3.4 billion. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works is a business unit of General Dynamics.

South Korea has selected Lockheed Martin (LMT) to develop a mid-level fighter jet in partnership with Korea Aerospace Industries for $7.9B, reports Reuters, citing statements from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. Raytheon (RTN) has been awarded a contract valued at up to $45.7M by Northrop Grumman (NOC) Aerospace Systems for ground segments in support of four Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems recently purchased by the Republic of Korea. Under this contract, Raytheon will deliver one building-based and one mobile ground segment to locations in South Korea. Work under the contract will be performed at Raytheon's Dulles, Va., facility and is expected to be completed by mid-2019.

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Orlando, Florida, has been awarded a $485M firm fixed price with minimal cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. Contractor will provide multiple Sniper advanced targeting pods including initial spares, 1K forward-looking infrareds, and two-way data links. It also includes other items as specified in the contract. Work will be performed at Orlando, Florida, and is expected to be complete by March 26, 2018. This contract involves foreign military sales. This award is the result of a sole-source acquisition. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, is the contracting activity.

The National Labor Relations Board approved an agreement between the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, or IAM, and Boeing that establishes the date, time, duration and eligible voters for a union representation election among more than 3,000 workers at Boeing’s 787 production facility in North Charleston, SC, the IAM announced last night. According to the agreement, which was facilitated by the NLRB and is known as a stipulated election agreement, the one-day election is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 22, at five separate locations on Boeing’s North Charleston campus, the IAM stated.

Boeing (GE) and its suppliers -- including General Electric (GE) -- have turned to using large Ukrainian "Antonov" cargo jets to overcome supply disruptions at U.S. West coast ports, reports the Wall Street Journal, citing statements by Boeing Commercial CEO Ray Conner, who said disruptions continued even after the ports reached a deal earlier in March. "We’re still dealing with the congestion of all the things that are stuck in those ports right now," added Conner. A Boeing spokesperson said there had been "no effect" on deliveries to airlines.
