12:33 EDTLLYEli Lilly announces data comparing FORTEO and zoledronic
Eli Lilly said it presented data comparing the effects of FORTEO and zoledronic acid on transiliac crest bone biopsies at six months in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, based on additional analysis of data from the SHOTZ trial. Results, which were presented in an oral presentation at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, clearly differentiate the mechanism of action of FORTEO as anabolic and that of zoledronic acid as antiresorptive, the company said. The data show that the contrasting effects of FORTEO and zoledronic acid on bone remodeling are evident on all three bone surfaces: cancellous, endocortical and periosteal. The effects on mineralizing surface and bone formation rate – dynamic indices of bone formation and turnover – provided clear differentiation of the mechanism of action of the two drugs at six months.

08:02 EDTLLYEli Lilly's Enzastaurin Phase III study did not meet primary endpoint
Eli Lilly announced Phase III clinical trial results from enzastaurin's PRELUDE study, which explored the molecule as a monotherapy in the prevention of relapse in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The study failed to show a statistically significant increase compared to placebo in disease-free survival in patients at high risk of relapse following rituximab-based chemotherapy. There were no new safety findings, and the safety data were consistent with previously disclosed studies. Lilly will stop development of enzastaurin, which is expected to result in a second-quarter charge to R&D expense of approximately $30M. The company's previously-issued financial guidance for 2013 remains unchanged.
