Kofax reported it was issued a patent by the Japan Patent Office, or JPO, and four new patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO, in the first half of calendar year 2014. The company now has 46 issued patents and 76 pending applications, with 68 of the total relating to mobile imaging technologies. Patent 5,426,286 from JPO, issued January, covers technology for determining document validity, including those captured via mobile devices. Patent 8,749,839 issued by the USPTO in June expands Kofax’s VirtualReScan image perfection technology to images captured via mobile devices, and patent 8,677,249 issued by the USPTO in March covers technology for providing a user interface for structured and unstructured document inspection and manipulation, including those captured via mobile devices. Patents 8,693,043 and 8,719,197 issued by the USPTO in April and May, respectively, cover technologies for automatic document separation and document classification via machine learning that are currently utilized within Kofax software.
