J.C. Penney (JCP) CEO Ron Johnson is said to be planning a round of layoffs, and may potentially fire at least 10% of the remaining 3,000 employees at its home offices in Plano, Texas, sources tell the New York Post. One former executive notes that Q4 sales, which are scheduled for release on February 27, are estimated to have declined "upward of 30%" amid steep holiday markdowns. Reference Link

J.C. Penney has decided to resurrect its catalog in the form of a 120-page book that will mark the first catalog the chain has sent out since 2010, The Wall Street Journal reports. The retailer, which quit the catalog amid a broader pullback caused by the recession and the rise of e-commerce, now believes the catalog can help drive web sales. Reference Link
