Intel (INTC) has announced plans to package its standard server processors alongside a different class of programmable chip in a combination that includes an FPGA, or field programmable gate array, reported The Wall Street Journal, which noted that FPGAs have been sold for years by Xilinx (XLNX) and Altera (ALTR).
