The firm thinks that Intel failed to announce new design wins or use cases that would have signaled a game changer, but it maintains a $28 price target and reiterates an Outperform rating.

Shares of Synaptics (SYNA), which develops touch products for smartphones, are declining after research firm Maxim Group wrote that the company would be hurt by Samsung's (SSNLF) decision to produce many fewer Galaxy S4 devices. WHAT'S NEW: Samsung has started reducing its shipments of Galaxy S 4 smartphones in response to weak sales of the device, Maxim Group wrote in a note to investors. The Korean company is likely to reduce production of the device by 20%-25%, the firm added. Synaptics has the most exposure to the Galaxy S4 of all the companies that Maxim covers, the analyst wrote. TODAY'S PRICE ACTION: In early afternoon trading, Synaptics fell $1, or 2.6%, to $37.75. OTHERS TO WATCH: Other companies with exposure to Samsung devices include Broadcom (BRCM), Maxim Integrated (MXIM), Audience (ADNC), Peregrine (PSMI), RF Micro Devices (RFMD), Skyworks (SWKS), ARM Holdings (ARMH), Qualcomm (QCOM), and TriQuint (TQNT).

Apple (AAPL) announced its updated MacBook Air with all day battery life, fourth generation Intel (INTC) Core processors with faster graphics, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and flash storage that is up to 45% faster than the previous generation. The notebook is now an even better value, with 11-inch models featuring double the storage and 13-inch models starting at a new lower price of $1,099. Apple also introduced completely redesigned AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule base stations featuring 802.11ac Wi-Fi for up to three times faster performance. The thin and light design features dual microphones, a FaceTime HD camera, a high-speed Thunderbolt port and two USB 3.0 ports. MacBook Air also supports dual displays and video mirroring while simultaneously supporting full native resolution on the built-in display. MacBook Air ships with OS X(R) Mountain Lion. MacBook Air is available immediately through the Apple Online Store, Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. Sharp (SHCAY) said that it would sell about $62M of stock to Qualcomm (QCOM) for Y502 per share, Sharp reported today. The share sale is pursuant to a joint development agreement that the company made with Qualcomm (QCOM) on December 4, 2012, Sharp stated.
