08:25 EDTINTC, GOOG, FBIntel pricing power in servers drives Google, Facebook to mull options, WSJ says
Intel (INTC) has incredible pricing power in server chips, with Mercury Research estimating that the average price of Intel's chips for servers rose 47% from the first quarter of 2007 to this latest quarter, reported The Wall Street Journal. Intel says it hasn't raised server-chip prices and that the move higher reflects customer's opting for higher-end models, but the situation is prompting companies including Google (GOOG) and Facebook (FB) to explore competing technologies, said the report.
