Genetics-based medicine received a new boost with the introduction this week of Illumina's new, lower cost HiSeq X sequencing machine, reports Bloomberg Businessweek. As of last year, the going rate to get your genome sequenced was about $10,000. Now it will be closer to $1,000. Itís estimated that about 90% of all human genomes ever sequenced have been done on Illuminaís machines. Reference Link

06:10 EDTILMNIllumina, USAID and Broad Institute partner to combat ebola in West Africa
Illumina, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, have entered into a public-private partnership to help combat the Ebola epidemic in West Africa with aid for those on the ground who are fighting the spread of the virus. The partnership will train local and outbreak-deployed personnel to sequence viral genomes from the outbreak, and will extend surveillance operations, as well as equip facilities in West Africa with state-of-the-art genome sequencing technology.
