| theflyonthewall.com: | IBM is the "pick of the litter" in IT, Barron's says | | IBM's (IBM) report this week looked rather staid when you compare it to the Q2 results from both EMC (EMC) and VMware (VMW). Both EMC and VMware showed signs of pent-up demand from information-technology, or IT, professionals in both hardware and software. Barrons.com thinks that Big Blue is still the name to watch. IBM shares fell 2.5% Tuesday due to concerns about bookings in the company's services segment. The selloff made an already inexpensive stock just a little cheaper, notes Barrons.com. At a recent $126.04, IBM fetches just 10.7x expected earnings for the next 12 months. At a market multiple, IBM shares would fetch $159. Add in a 2% dividend and IBM looks even more attractive for long-term investors. Reference Link :theflyonthewall.com |

| theflyonthewall.com: | U.S. markets continue to fluctuate | | Wall Street will be in limbo for most of the week regarding economic news which started off the with weak NAHB housing data this morning to the upcoming European bank stress tests due at week's end. The S&P 500 Index gained fractionally this afternoon to 1,065.10, with utilities up the most and financials the heaviest weight among the index's 10 industry group. The Nasdaq added nearly 3.72 points, currently to 2,182.80. For every three stocks on the rise roughly four fell on the Dow. Helping lift the energy sector was Halliburton (HAL) which reported quarterly results that exceeded Wall Street's expectations. Tech stocks, with the exception of Apple (AAPL), have been on the rise as IBM (IBM) and Texas Instruments (TXN) results are on tap after the market closes. Apple shares are weak on iPhone 4 complaints and margin concerns. Conversely, airline stocks lost ground Monday after Delta (DAL) reported Q2 results that slightly missed Wall Street's top-line expectations and announced plans to boost capacity this year and next. :theflyonthewall.com |

| theflyonthewall.com: | U.S. stocks mixed at mid-day as Apple pulls the Nasdaq lower | | The July home builder index hit a 15-month low causing U.S. stocks to waver in mid-day trading. The tech-heavy Nasdaq is feeling the "bite" from Apple (AAPL) this afternoon with the shares currently down about 3%. Lingering fallout over the iPhone 4 and customer complaints about reception have kept the shares lower. Also, some analysts that follow Apple said that the company could fall short of profit margin forecasts when they report Q3 earnings Tuesday after the market close due to supply constraints on the iPhone 4. Tech giants IBM (IBM) and Texas Instruments (TXN), who report their earnings after today's market close, are holding onto earlier gains. :theflyonthewall.com |
