HSBC said earlier today that it had agreed to sell its bank in Kazakhstan, SB JSC HSBC Bank Kazakhstan, to JSC Halyk Bank for $176M in cash. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approvals and other conditions including customary adjustments relating to net asset value at completion, is expected to complete during the fourth quarter of 2014, HSBC added.

HSBC's Saudi Arabia unit is being investigated by regulators in the kingdom for its role in a stock listing that left investors experiencing heavy losses, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing sources familiar with the matter. Saudi Arabia's Capital Markets Authority, or CMA, suspended the unit from conducting certain asset management activities and is probing whether the company inflated the valuation of a construction firm's listing in 2008, the report says.
