theflyonthewall.com: Earnings Preview: Hewlett-Packard results should be consistent with guidance
Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) is expected to report Q4 earnings after the market close on Monday, November 23 with a conference call scheduled for 5 pm ET. The consensus estimate is $1.13 for EPS and $30.36B for revenue, according to First Call. The company announced preliminary Q4 results earlier this month of $1.14 on $30.8B in revenue, topping Wall Street's forecasts. HP also provided higher forward guidance for Q1 of $1.03-$1.05 on revenue of $29.6B-$29.9B, and for FY10 EPS $4.25-$4.35 on revenue of $118B-$119B. Investors will be looking for signs of improving health in the high-tech arena. Kaufman does not anticipate much surprise from the pre announcement, though focus will be on margins and details into the company's operating segments, such as its PC business and its printer and imaging group. They will also be looking for signs of additional growth from the company's services business, anchored by its recent acquisition of EDS. Kaufman is modeling EPS if $1.14, revenue $30.76B, and gross margin of 23.7%. Kaufman's read from industry sources indicates modest upside in services and a bigger upside in its hardware businesses. They also anticipate some additional insight into its acquisition of 3Com (COMS). They continue to view the acquisition of 3COM as a relatively low-risk, "bolt-on" acquisition, that does not change HP's landscape. Kaufman remains a buyer of HP shares as they find its valuation at 11x CY10E EPS inexpensive. They see HP as a fairly defensive play with its recurring profit streams, broad portfolio, geographic exposure, and room for operating leverage. Kaufman rates HP a Buy, with $57 target. :theflyonthewall.com

theflyonthewall.com: HP to appeal BSkyB ruling, Register reports
Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) will appeal a judge's decision in favor of BSkyB over a contract dispute with EDS, the Register reports. HP acquired EDS in 2008 and the case is thought to be the most expensive in British legal history. HP said in a statement: “This is a legacy issue, dating back to the EDS business in 2000, which HP inherited when it acquired EDS in 2008. We are pleased the Court dismissed the majority of the allegations made. While we accept that the contract was problematic, HP strongly maintains EDS did nothing to deceive BSkyB. HP will be seeking permission to appeal." Reference Link :theflyonthewall.com
