News Breaks | | | | February 22, 2013 | | 18:45 EDT |  | HLF | Herbalife announces voluntary recall of Meal Nutritional Shake Herbalife announced the voluntary recall of certain lots of its Instant Healthy Meal Nutritional Shake Mix packets because the label identifies the product as dairy-free, when it may in fact contain trace amounts of milk proteins. Individuals with severe allergies to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume products containing milk proteins, the company said. The product was distributed in the U.S. from January 16, 2013, through February 16, 2013, exclusively to individual independent distributors as cartons of 12 packets or as single-serving packets in the company’s introductory business pack. There have been no reports to date of any illnesses or adverse health effects associated with the affected products, Herbalife said. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been notified of this voluntary recall, it added. | |

Conducted online during April and May, the survey was completed without intervention from Herbalife and the company’s sponsorship was not disclosed, it added. With a sample size of 10,525 consumers, the survey had a margin of error of +/- 0.96%. According to the research, 3.3% of the general population reported that they had purchased Herbalife products within the past three months, indicating that Herbalife currently has approximately 7.9M customers when projected to the total U.S. adult population. Herbalife customers would include their distributor network, which totaled approximately 550,000 in the U.S. as of the end of Q1.
