Granite Construction (GVA) announced that it has been awarded a $61M dam removal contract by California American Water, a subsidiary of water and wastewater utility American Water (AWK). Granite expects to book the project into backlog during Q2. Construction is scheduled to start in July and will take approximately 28 months to complete.

The Monterey County Planning commission approved California American Water’s San Clemente dam removal plan on Wednesday. With this vote, the company obtained the last of the major permits it needs to begin construction, set to commence later this summer. California American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (AWK), also announced that Granite Construction (GVA) has been selected as the contractor to lead the work on the project. The company awarded Granite Construction with the design-build contract for the removal and river re-route valued at $61M.
