theflyonthewall.com: U.S. stock futures rise on Apple results ahead of Bernanke testimony
U.S. stock futures are rising modestly as investors focus more on an upbeat earnings report from Apple (AAPL) than on disappointing results from Yahoo (YHOO). U.S. stocks are on course for gains today as investors await testimony from Fed Chairman who will deliver his monetary policy report to the Senate Banking Committee at 2 pm ET. The Fed chief is expected to say the economy is growing slowly but it's unlikely to fall back into recession. Before that investors will digest a number of earnings reports from companies including Morgan Stanley (MS), Wells Fargo (WFC), Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold (FCX), GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), eBay (EBAY) and Starbucks (SBUX). Dow futures are up 21 points to 10,199, the S&P's 500 index futures are up 3.8 points to 1,083.90, and the Nasdaq 100 index futures are up 10.8 points to 1,850.5. The Dow ended up 0.7% yesterday reversing intraday triple-digit losses. :theflyonthewall.com

theflyonthewall.com: As Swine flu pandemic abates, drug makers await next flu season
Next week the World Health Organization reportedly may announce that the swine flu pandemic is over if it's determined that the worst has passed. The vaccines and medicines to fight it cost billions and it took over 18,000 lives. Roche Holding sold about $3.5B of Tamiflu in 2009 and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) tallied nearly $3.8B as the overall total revenue for all drug companies is estimated at $10B-plus. While the rare pandemic may have been a onetime revenue bonanza a typical flu season can cost 500,000 lives. What's next is that a new flu season is coming and drug makers will benefit. :theflyonthewall.com
