06:10 EDTGOOG, LNVGY, SSNLFFor Google, keeping patents key to Motorola, Samsung deals, Bloomberg reports
With Google's (GOOG) sale of its Motorola Mobility handset division to Lenovo Group (LNVGY) for $2.9B, it held onto most of the unit’s patent portfolio. Similarly this week, Google signed a patent-licensing agreement with Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) covering existing patents and those filed for the next decade. Both deals underscore how Google is using patents to create a defensive against litigation and also tie partners more closely to itself, reports Bloomberg.Reference Link
