On June 15, Shanghai General Motors will begin recalling almost 208,000 Buick LaCrosse cars built in China because of possible brake-fluid leaks, says the Wall Street Journal, citing China's quality control agency . The Treasury department announced last night that it has agreed to sell 30M shares of General Motors common stock at $34.41 per share in an underwritten public offering in conjunction with GM's inclusion in the S&P 500 index. The aggregate proceeds to Treasury from the common stock offering are expected to total approximately $1.03B. The UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust has also agreed to sell 20MM shares in the offering, making the total offering size 50M shares. Aggregate proceeds to VEBA from the common stock offering are expected to total approximately $688M. After giving effect to this offering, Treasury will own approximately 189.2M shares of GM common stock. At the conclusion of this sale, the taxpayers will have recovered $32.53B of the initial GM investment, Treasury added.
