10:02 EDTGDGeneral Dynamics awarded $32.7M contract modification by U.S. Navy
The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics American Overseas Marine, or AMSEA, a $32.7M contract modification to operate and maintain seven large, medium-speed, roll-on / roll-off ships, or LMSR, for the Military Sealift Command. AMSEA is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics. Under the terms of the modification, AMSEA will provide services including crewing, engineering, maintenance, procurement and provisioning. Initially awarded in 2010, the contract has a potential value of $238M over seven years.

The Department of Defense is enacting stricter rules on how defense companies can spent $4B of the department's research budget, following a report that explained that much of the budget was used to increase contractors' bids or to develop their own proprietary technology, reports the Wall Street Journal. Publicly traded companies in the space include BAE Systems (BAESY), Boeing (BA), General Dynamics (GD), Lockheed Martin (LMT), Northrop Grumman (NOC), Raytheon (RTN) and United Technologies (UTX).
