Democrats and Republicans are looking to cut $60B-$120B from the deficit, and delay the automatic spending cuts scheduled to kick in at the beginning of next year, according to Bloomberg, which cited unnamed Congressional aides. A Democratic aide said the party may be willing to have a larger share of the cuts come from non-defense spending, the news service reported. Reference Link

L-3 Communications announced that it has been awarded a $38.5M contract from the Commonwealth of Australia to supply 51 Hawkeye III Lite 1.2-meter Very Small Aperture Terminals, as well as training and long-term sustainment services. Specifically, the contract will deliver one type of a family of transportable land terminals that will optimize the early use of Australia’s SATCOM system and provide communication services where commercial satellite resources are limited. The capability is scheduled for delivery in 2014.

Lockheed Martin was awarded a sole-source, cost-plus-incentive-fee/cost-plus-award-fee contract modification. The value of this contract modification is $29.73M, increasing the total contract value from $1.41B to $1.44B. Under this modification, the contractor shall provide system engineering and program management services in accordance with established Aegis system engineering practices for the post certification support of Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense baselines 4.0.X, 5.0 and 5.0 capability upgrade. Work is expected to be completed Dec. 31, 2014.
