Northrop Grumman has been awarded a contract by the U.K. Ministry of Defence to design, develop, integrate, test and support a Fuel Quantity Indicator System, or FQIS, for the Sentry E-3D Airborne Warning and Control System or AWACS, aircraft based at RAF Waddington. Work will be performed under Northrop Grumman's existing Sentry E-3D Whole Life Support Programme. The contract modification for FQIS is valued at more than $17M over three years.

Airbus (EADSY) sought to finalize a number of orders today to avoid falling behind rival Boeing (BA) at its domestic Paris Airshow, reports Reuters. As of last night, Airbus had 211 firm orders versus 265 for Boeing. Airbus had commitments for a further 165 jets, compared with 127 for Boeing. Reference Link

Sikorsky Aircraft, a division of United Technologies (UTX), and Boeing (BA) have formed a joint venture to compete for sustainment services in support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's rotorcraft fleet. Contracts that the joint venture will pursue are administered by the U.S. Government as part of its Foreign Military Sales process. The joint venture will help advance the Kingdom's efforts to diversify its economy, expand the technological expertise of its aerospace and commercial sectors, and create jobs.

Boeing (BA) announced today at the Paris Air Show a memorandum of understanding with Air Lease (AL) to purchase 33 airplanes. The Los Angeles-based leasing company has committed to order three 787-9 and 30 787-10X Dreamliners. Boeing looks forward to working with ALC to finalize the details of the agreement, at which time the airplanes will be posted to the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website as a firm order. ALC expects to begin taking 787-10X deliveries in 2019.
