| 12:35 EDT | | GCI | On The Fly: Midday Wrap Stocks on Wall Street were higher at midday after retail sales rose more than expected in May and first-time unemployment applications fell last week. The market, which suffered its first three day losing streak of 2013 with its lower close yesterday, is looking to avoid a fourth straight down day. ECONOMIC EVENTS: In the U.S., retail sales rose 0.6% in May, versus the expected increase of 0.4%. Initial jobless claims fell 12K to 334K in the week ended June 8, versus expectations for 346K claims. Business inventories rose 0.3% in April, matching expectations. COMPANY NEWS: Shares of DuPont (DD) slid 1% after the company provided second quarter earnings per share guidance that was below analysts' expectations and said it now expects full-year earnings to be at the low end of its previous $3.85-$4.05 guidance... Gannett agreed to buy Belo for $13.75 per share in cash, or approximately $1.5B, plus assume $715M in existing debt in a deal that the company sees adding to its non-GAAP earnings per share by approximately 50c within the first 12 months.
