05:16 EDTFLR, ABXFluor awarded new mining contracts at Barrick Gold's Pasca-Lama site
Fluor (FLR) announced that the company was awarded a series of follow-on contracts from Toronto-based Barrick Gold (ABX) for new scopes of work at the Pascua-Lama mining project located on the Argentina/Chile border. Fluor booked the undisclosed value into backlog in 4Q12. The new scopes of work included in the award are for overall project management and construction management for the Pascua location on the Chile side of the site, as well as construction management and construction for the Lama location on the Argentina side. The latter two scopes are part of a 50/50 joint venture with Argentinian contractor Techint.

Technip (TKPPY), in a joint venture with Fluor (FLR), was awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management contract by PRPC Utilities and Facilities for the PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development project located in the state of Johor, Malaysia. Under this contract, the Fluor and Technip joint venture will be responsible for the utilities, interconnecting and offsites scope of work. RAPIDís refinery start-up is expected by early 2019. Technipís operating centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will execute the contract.

The Finance Ministry of Zambia said it plans to more than triple royalties on open-pit copper mines, says the Wall Street Journal. Mining companies with open-pit mines in Zambia include Canadaís Barrick Gold (ABX) and First Quantum Minerals, added the Wall Street Journal. Reference Link
