The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is demanding an explanation for what they say is Chrysler's slow pace in making repairs to protect rear fuel tanks in older model Jeep SUVs even though the regulators have accepted the car manufacturer's remedy in regards to lower-speed crashes, according to Reuters, citing a statement from the NHTSA. The regulator said that Chrysler's current speed would take it nearly five years to amend all the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Liberty SUVs affected by the recall announced last year. Chrysler is a unit of Fiat (FIATY). Reference Link

Veteran auto workers should get a wage increase in a new contract, while the compensation of newly hired employees should move closer to that of longer serving workers, UAW President Dennis Williams said today, according to Automotive News. Williams said he is not considering launching a strike when the auto workers' contact ends in September, the website added. Publicly traded companies in the space include Fiat S.p.A. (FIATY), Ford (F), General Motors (GM), Honda (HMC), Nissan (NSANY), Toyota (TM) and Volkswagen (VLKAY).Reference Link
