U.S. safety regulators announced a broadening of a previous recall by 695,957 vehicles which includes more model years of Fiat Chrysler cars that have defected ignition switches, according to Reuters, citing a statement from Chrysler. 2008-2009 Dodge Grand Caravans and Chrysler Town & Country minivans along with 2009 Dodge Journey crossover models have been added to the previous recall. The European Automobile Manufacturers Association reported new passenger car registrations were up by 5.6% in July and by 2.1% in August. Eight months into the year, demand for new cars amounted to 8,336,159 units, or 6.0% more than in the same period last year, the group noted. Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2015 Chrysler 200 vehicles manufactured May 19 to June 21. The affected vehicles may have been built with a driver side door wiring harness of an insufficient wire gauge, resulting in excessive heat which may melt the wiring insulation. Excessive heat and melting wiring insulation may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door wiring harness, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in September. Chrysler is owned by Fiat. Reference Link

Industry officials are anticipating sales in the country for 2014 to decrease another 20% after a 5% decline last year.
