Greece sent a message to other struggling European countries that "if you do what's right for the European Union, the Union will do right for you," said Jim Cramer. The optimism is beyond Europe, too, with housing inflation in China "crashing down," and hopes the Federal Reserve "might have something up its sleeve to improve the U.S. economy" Wednesday, he said. Cramer pointed to several specific examples of the effects of hope, or "hopium," as he called it. FedEx (FDX) reported an "okay number" and cut its forecast but rallied $2.50 Tuesday, and despite a number of downgrades in the industrials, stocks such as Cummins (CMI) were also higher. In addition, Cramer said, a restoration of global growth can give us "what looks to be a bottom in the price of crude oil," sending everything from independent natural gas companies to the big oil service companies higher. In aerospace, Honeywell (HON), Boeing (BA) and United Technologies (UTX) were all up Tuesday, and auto makers General Motors (GM) and Ford Motor (F) also rose on "hope that Europe favors growth," said Cramer. Cramer had a word of caution for viewers, saying that without more evidence that Europe will support growth, it's likely that stock prices have risen higher than they deserve to. Cramer encouraged viewers to retain focus on the European mess while also seeking out opportunities at home in the U.S., including speculative ideas such as BioMarin Pharmaceuticals (BMRN), which he said was in the "sweet spot of the orphan drug business." Cramer has liked the stock since October 2010, and it's seen a 70% gain since then. Cramer said the reason to own the stock is for its pipeline, which includes three major catalysts coming in the second half of the year. Cramer has been "in awe" of BioMarin for a long time, calling it the son of Genzyme (GENZ), which he said was "one of the biggest hits I have ever seen." OFF THE CHARTS: Cramer focused in on Nike (NKE), which is up 160% since its generational lows in March 2009 but is down 10% in the last six weeks alone. Its daily chart shows some "serious red flags," said Cramer, with the stock making a series of lower lows and lower highs since its early May peak at $113, which is a technical signal to sell. His colleague Dan Fitzpatrick, however, says Nike's stock looks more like an imminently buyable pullback. From a technical perspective, Fitzpatrick thinks Nike is a relatively safe buy as long as it stays above $100. If it falls below that level, Fitzpatrick says all bets are off. In terms of the fundamentals, Cramer called them "pretty darn good," which he said makes Nike a bargain on any pullback -- including below $100. Cramer thinks Nike's quarterly report, scheduled for next week, will be strong, but he said key to the stock is the Summer Olympics. Lastly, Cramer again turned to biotech for speculative ideas, saying that in this volatile environment, it's wise to seek out "small, relatively undiscovered companies that have their own internal catalyst." He welcomed Acorda Therapeutics (ACOR) CEO Ron Cohen to discuss its multiple schlerosis drug Ampyra, which could have indications for other diseases including cerebral palsy and strokes. Cohen said Acorda has projected $255M-$275M in sales this year and notes that there are many people with MS who haven't tried the drug yet. Cramer encouraged viewers to check out Acorda, citing its profitability and the fact that it "has nothing to do with the economy." LIGHTNING ROUND: (Bullish) AGNC is "ok" - likes NLY better; TSCO; prefers EMC over VMW; DGX a fine company, but Cramer is not sure how it dovetails with what may happen with the Supreme Court. (Bearish) ATVI; C is too low to sell, said Cramer, but it's also not his favorite bank. Reference Link

10:17 EDTGMGM jumps above IPO level after CLSA boosts rating
Shares of GM (GM) are advancing after CLSA analyst Emmanuel Rosner upgraded the stock to Buy from Underperform in a note to investors earlier today. WHAT'S NEW: GM should benefit from improved profitability in North America in the second half of 2013 and 2014, reduced losses in Europe, and stabilized profit margins in China, Rosner wrote. In North America, the automaker's profitability should be boosted by higher prices in the second half of this year, and by the full rollout of its K2XX trucks in 2014, the analyst believes. GM's first quarter results in Europe indicated that it is "making encouraging progress in reducing losses" there, the analyst wrote. As a result, he has increased confidence that GM Europe's loss will drop to about $1B this year from $1.9B last year. In China, GM's emphasis on the Cadillac should enable the company to keep its margins, which had been in a downward trend, from falling this year, the analyst contended. Rosner has a $48 price target on GM's stock. TODAY'S PRICE ACTION: In early trading, GM rose 60c, or 1.9%, to $33. WHAT'S NOTABLE: GM's IPO price was $33, and the stock has reached that level again today.

12:24 EDTBMRNOn The Fly: Midday Wrap
The S&P 500 was virtually unchanged at midday following a deluge of domestic economic data this morning. The S&P began the session in negative territory, but only moderately lower, after investors received a host of data prior to the open, including reports on jobless claims, consumer prices, and housing starts. ECONOMIC EVENTS: In the U.S., initial jobless claims rose 32K to 360K last week, compared to expectations for them to remain relatively stable at 330K. The consumer price index dropped a larger than forecast 0.4% in April, though the "core" CPI rate rose 0.1%, as expected. Housing starts were down 16.5% in April from the prior month, versus an expected decrease of 6.4%, though building permits jumped 14.3% from the prior month, beating an expected increase of 3.8%. The Philadelphia Fed General Business Conditions Index for May came in at -5.2, versus expectations for a +2.2 reading. COMPANY NEWS: Earnings reports from two Dow members, Wal-Mart (WMT) and Cisco (CSCO), sent their shares in opposite directions. Cisco shares advanced 12% to lead the blue chip index after the company's results beat expectations on the top and bottom lines and prompted price target increases at several analyst firms. Wal-Mart, in contrast, lagged all Dow names, sliding 2% after its earnings for the just ended quarter and its view of the current quarter missed the consensus forecast... After the closing bell, Tesla Motors (TSLA) said it intends to raise about $830M by offering 2.7M common shares and $450M in convertible senior notes. CEO Elon Musk will buy $100M worth of the stock and debt, the company said, and its recently high-flying shares rose another 6%. MAJOR MOVERS: Among the notable gainers rising following Cisco's better than expected results and commentary were Ciena (CIEN), which rose 8%, and Cavium (CAVM), which advanced 4%. Also higher were shares of NetApp (NTAP), which gained over 6% after Bloomberg said activist investor Elliott Management has taken a stake in the company and is pushing its board to explore ways to boost shareholder value. Among the noteworthy losers were Oncothyreon (ONTY), which fell 20%, and Biomarin (BMRN), down 5%, after both pharmaceutical companies, among a number of others, published data to be presented at ASCO, an annual meeting of oncologists. Also lower was AMD (AMD), which declined 14% following a downgrade to Sell at Goldman Sachs. INDICES: Near noon, the Dow was up 12.47, or 0.08%, to 15,288.16; the Nasdaq was up 8.74, or 0.25%, to 3,480.36; and the S&P 500 was nearly flat at 1,658.80.
