Thursday's upward move in the big-cap industrials and tech stocks could not be traced to anything positive happening here in the U.S., but were caused by a rise in Chinese purchasing, which took the markets by surprise. That one data point from China was even able to lift stocks like Nike (NKE), which sells big into China, as well as Eaton (ETN), coal exporter Peabody Energy (BTU), Caterpillar (CAT), Fedex (FDX) and Joy Global (JOY). Cramer noted that China is also a huge market for tech, and may be able to single-handedly rescue that troubled sector. Cramer sat down with Sam Thomas, chairman, president and CEO of Chart Industries (GTLS), a natural gas liquids company with shares up 20% for the year but which also just reported an earnings miss of 8c. Thomas said the timing for our country to use domestic natural gas as a surface vehicle fuel has been taking longer than expected. He said that while Chart Industries anticipated consolidation in the industry, the pullback in demand was more than expected. Once that consolidation is completed, Thomas sees that business improving. Thomas said Chart remains a great growth story and will be a key supplier in a rapidly growing industry. Cramer also spoke with David Henry, president and CEO of Kimco Realty (KIM), a shopping center REIT with a 3.9% yield. Kimco just delivered an earnings beat of 4c on a 7% rise in revenue while also delivering upside guidance. Henry was optimistic on Kimco's outlook, saying occupancy rates are on the rise at most centers. Cramer remained bullish on Kimco, saying it offers both growth and dividends. Next, Cramer sounded off against the countless hedge fund managers betting against the retail sector. Cramer said these big money managers never take the time to determine what might actually be going on in retail. Instead, they take their cues from the weak results of the weaker players, then extrapolate that the entire group must be bad. That's why so many funds were shorting PVH Corp (PVH),and why the stock was able to pop 20% on the news of its Warnaco (WRC) acquisition Wednesday. The American consumer is alive and well, noted Cramer. That's why investors need to stick with the strong retail companies, those that can execute and deliver on earnings and not just assume that as goes one, so go they all. CLOSING COMMENS: Cramer said both Starbucks (SBUX) and Priceline.com (PCLN) posted blowout earnings that will have a positive effect on the markets Friday. 13:06 EDTYHOOOn The Fly: Midday Wrap
Stocks on Wall Street were modestly higher at midday as the Dow and S&P seek to continue their march higher after closing last week at record levels. ECONOMIC EVENTS: In the U.S., the light domestic economic calendar included the Chicago Fed National Activity index, which slipped to -0.53 for April from its prior reading of -0.23. In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai Composite both climbed after Chinese home prices were reported to have risen in April. COMPANY NEWS: Yahoo (YHOO) confirmed it is buying social media platform Tumblr for $1.1B, as widely reported over the weekend, and promised "not to screw it up" in its press release to announce the deal... Actavis (ACT) agreed to acquire Warner Chilcott (WCRX) in a stock-for-stock transaction valued at approximately $8.5B. The deal, which was approved by the boards of both companies, equates to a value of $20.08 per Warner Chilcott share based on Actavis' closing share price on Friday, the companies said. MAJOR MOVERS: Among the notable gainers were some other companies with M&A news: Acquity Group (AQ) shares more than doubled after Accenture (ACN) agreed to buy the company for $13.00 per American Depositary Share, and Pactera Technology (PACT) gained 31% after receiving a non-binding proposal from a Blackstone (BX) affiliate to be taken private for $7.50 per ADS. Among the noteworthy losers was XenoPort (XNPT), which fell 11% after one of its drugs failed in a Phase III trial for multiple sclerosis spasticity. Also lower were shares of Red Hat (RHT), which slid 4% following a downgrade to Market Perform at BMO Capital. INDICES: Near 1 pm ET, the Dow was up 13.67, or 0.09%, to 15,368.07; the Nasdaq was up 1.13, or 0.03%, to 3,500.10; and the S&P 500 was up 2.18, or 0.13%, to 1,669.65.

11:21 EDTYHOOYahoo acquisition a step in right direction, says Piper Jaffray
Piper views Yahoo's acquisition of Tumblr as a step in the right direction and one that could increase the company's top line growth from its current 1% estimate to 2% in 2013 and from 5% to 8% in 2014. However, Piper feels the deal is too small to materially change Yahoo's growth rate and continues to view the Alibaba IPO as the biggest part of the Yahoo story. The firm raised its price target for shares to $27 from $21 and keeps a Neutral rating on the name.

10:45 EDTCATCaterpillar trends were weak in April, says Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo notes that Caterpillar's machines sales growth decelerated in April. The firm thinks that modest improvements in the company's overall trends may be mostly offset by North American machines sales deceleration, and it keeps a Market Perform rating on the shares.
