Pharmacy benefits managers like Express Scripts are beginning to restrict coverage of compounded medicines because of a change in how compound pharmacies bill for their products, as well as supply-and-demand issues, says the Wall Street Journal. This week, Express Scripts will start blocking coverage for approximately 1,000 active ingredients that are widely used by compounding pharmacies to create many topical treatments, added the Wall Street Journal.
