DIRECTV (DTV) and DISH (DISH) issued the following statement regarding the passage of the Satellite Television Access and Viewer Rights Act, or STAVRA, out of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, & Transportation: "We thank Chairman Rockefeller, Ranking Member Thune and the rest of the Senate Commerce Committee for passing bipartisan legislation that makes important reforms to the outdated laws governing today’s video market, while ensuring continuity of service to more than 1.5M distant signal subscribers who would, otherwise, lose service at the end of this year. We look forward to working with Congressional leadership to see this reauthorization swiftly passed into law, and also look forward to continuing the important discussion regarding retransmission consent reform, and in particular protecting consumers from local channel blackouts.”

18:36 EDTDTVEntropic, ViXS Systems settle all litigation, execute cross-license pact
Entropic (ENTR) and ViXS Systems announced they have settled all outstanding litigation between the companies and have agreed to a cross-license to the patents at issue in the litigation. Entropic, ViXS and certain of their subsidiaries have been engaged in several patent lawsuits in the federal courts as well as proceedings before the International Trade Commission. Under the settlement agreement, all outstanding claims and counterclaims in those actions will be dismissed against all defendants, including DIRECTV (DTV), Wistron NeWeb Corporation and CyberTAN. The settlement also includes a cross-license between Entropic and ViXS of the issued patents that were the subject of the litigation. No fees or royalties are payable by either party with respect to its business as currently conducted or planned. Other terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The companies each expressed satisfaction with the litigation settlement.

In regards to DirectTV's (DTV) merger with AT&T (T), the company says its next big milestone is the completion of the formal shareholder vote. Says confident in having "overwhelming support" from shareholders. Says in terms of the merger's regulatory process, its going how the company expected. Says optimistic about closing the deal during 1H15. Ideally, says would like to see the deal close in late Q1 or early Q2, specifically "early April." Says highly confident in completing "Sunday Ticket" deal with the NFL before the end of the year. Says digital economy becoming increasingly important to consumers. Says merger with AT&T "unlocks" opportunities in Latin America. Says content costs could run "too high" for some customers. Says company needs to find a $25-$50 TV package for low spenders. Says looking for niche entertainment content. Aims to have capabilities for streaming next year. Comments made during the company's presentation at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference.

The state attorneys general who are collaborating with the U.S. Justice Department to figure out if Comcast's (CMCSA) purchase of Time Warner Cable (TWC) is permissible have broadened their probe to also incorporate AT&T's (T) potential acquisition of DirecTV (DTV), according to Reuters, citing sources close to the merger investigation.
