DIRECTV continues to make great strides toward evolving its DIRECTV Everywhere service, with a new digital video ad insertion solution developed in partnership with FreeWheel, a video advertising technology provider. Through the new partnership, DIRECTV is investing in a core component of the TV everywhere ecosystem, creating a new revenue stream for the platform, which allows customers to access the most popular TV shows and movies anytime, anywhere and on any device. In addition to the commercial agreement, DIRECTV has also taken an equity position in FreeWheel. The investment will enable DIRECTV to have insight into the product roadmap and industry evolution, as well as develop deeper relationships with industry leaders and key partners.

Orbital ATK (OA) announced that the SKY MEXICO-1 satellite, built by the company for DirecTV (DTV), was successfully delivered to orbit aboard an Ariane 5 rocket and is operating as planned early in its mission. The in-orbit testing will ensure that all satellite subsystems are functioning properly before SKYM-1 is officially turned over to DIRECTV for full operational control.

AT&T (T) CEO Randall Stephenson said AT&T's existing U-verse product is "nice" but unprofitable and that the company will get a profitable TV product from "day one" by buying DireTV (DTV). Stephenson said he expects to take share from cable operators and other TV offerings with its combined offering after the DirecTV deal closes. Stephenson said the company is on target to get the DirecTV deal closed in Q2. Stephenson spoke on CNBC.

DISH (DISH) and Cogent Communications (CCOI) asked the FCC to force AT&T (T) to sell Internet service as a standalone service, as a condition of the telecom giant's proposed acquisition of DirecTV (DTV), according to Reuters.
