DirecTV (DTV) announced last night that it extended its NFL Sunday Ticket deal, though terms were not disclosed. ESPN's Darren Rovell reports, citing a source with knowledge of the matter, that pact is for eight years and the rights fee averages $1.5B a year, which is up 50% from the average on its prior contract. Note that DirecTV extending its deal with the NFL was a condition of the company's agreement to be acquired by AT&T (T). Reference Link

Starz (STRZA) may struggle to sell itself, according to the Wall Street Journal citing challenges facing standalone media companies. The publication says that the standalone networks -- Starz, AMC Networks (AMCX) and Scripps Networks (SNI) -- "lack the heft" of larger peers in negotiations regarding affiliate deals, and look "increasingly vulnerable" now that Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWC), DirecTV (DTV) and AT&T (T) are joining forces.
