Executives at top European telecom companies, including Deutsche Telekom (DTEGY), France Telecom (FTE), Telecom Italia (TI) and Telefonica (TEF), privately met with EU competition chief Joaquín Almunia and came away intent on exploring the idea of creating a pan-European telecom infrastructure network, given their frustrations that the region's disjointed market has hurt their ability to compete, according to Financial Times, citing sources close to the talks.
