Diana Shipping announced that on June 24 it signed through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, a Memorandum of Agreement to acquire from an unaffiliated third party seller, a new-building Capesize dry bulk vessel of approximately 180K dwt, built by Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, Qingdao, People's Republic of China, for a purchase price of $58M. The vessel is expected to be delivered to the buyer by mid-August. Excluding the newly acquired vessel, as well as two new-building Newcastlemax dry bulk vessels and one new-building Kamsarmax dry bulk vessel expected to be delivered to the company during 2Q16, Diana Shipping's fleet currently consists of 38 dry bulk vessels. The combined carrying capacity of our fleet, excluding the four vessels not yet delivered, is approximately 4.21M dwt with a weighted average age of 6.83 years.

Diana Shipping (DSX) announced that it has entered into an agreement to purchase shares of the common stock of Diana Containerships (DCIX) for an aggregate purchase price of $40M. Concurrently with the Company's investment, two institutional investors not affiliated with the Company or Diana Containerships together purchased $40M of common shares, and Mr. Simeon Palios, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company and Diana Containerships, and a member of his family, along with other members of the Diana Containership's senior management, purchased an aggregate of $12M of common shares.
