09:03 EDTDSXDiana Shipping acquires Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier for EUR14.76M
Diana Shipping announced that on February 11, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, the company was the successful bidder at an auction that took place in France, for the m/v "Valeria Della Gatta", a 2009-built Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier of 82,193 dwt, built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Japan, for a purchase price of EUR14.76M. Separately, the company also announced that it has entered into a time charter contract with ADM International Sarl, Rolle, Switzerland, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, for one of its Post-Panamax dry bulk carriers, the m/v Alcmene. The gross charter rate is $7,250 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period of about 18 months to maximum 24 months. The charter is expected to commence on February 23.

Diana Shipping (DSX) announced that yesterday it agreed to loan up to $50M to Diana Containerships (DCIX), a former wholly-owned subsidiary of the company of which Diana Shipping currently owns approximately 10.4% of the issued and outstanding common shares. Under the terms of the loan agreement, one or more wholly-owned subsidiaries of Diana Containerships may borrow amounts under the loan to fund vessel acquisitions and for general corporate purposes. The loan matures on the fourth anniversary of the initial draw down date, and amounts drawn under the loan will bear interest at the rate of LIBOR plus 5.0% per annum. In addition, the borrower will pay the Company a variable back-end fee in an amount of up to 5.0%, in the aggregate, of the total amount outstanding under the loan.
