Shares of chemical makers are mixed after one of the companies in the sector, DuPont (DD), provided lower than expected second quarter guidance. WHAT'S NEW: DuPont provided second quarter earnings per share guidance that was below analysts' expectations. The company explained that its agriculture and nutrition and health units had been hurt by unseasonably cool, wet weather in North America and Europe. DuPont now expects its fiscal 2013 earning per share to be at the low end of its previous guidance range of $3.85-$4.05, the company said. PRICE ACTION: In mid-morning trading, DuPont lost 0.4% to $54. OTHERS TO WATCH: Dow Chemical (DOW) was flat at $33.75, Huntsman (HUN) rose 1% to $18 and Ashland (ASH) added 0.2% to $85.67.

Chemical companies are lobbying Congress to limit government use of proposed, tougher green-building codes in the hope that alternative standards may be adopted, reports Bloomberg. The American Chemistry Council and other groups say the standards are veering into the trickier area of health policy and will stigmatize chemicals without providing much benefit. Reference Link
