Quest Diagnostics (DGX) announced a series of senior leadership appointments. John Haydon, Senior Vice President, Operations, has decided for family reasons to take a new position that requires less travel, and will transition to a new role as Vice President, Joint Ventures and Strategic Programs, the company said. James Davis, previously Senior Vice President, Diagnostic Solutions, will become Senior Vice President, Operations, succeeding Haydon. In addition, Lidia Fonseca will join Quest as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, effective April 2. Fonseca previously was the Chief Information Officer at LabCorp (LH).

Quest Diagnostics announced that Franklin R. Cockerill, III, has joined the company as vice president and Chief Laboratory Officer, effective October 1. Cockerill will oversee quality, regulatory, technology, standardization and medical operations across Quest's network of laboratories. Cockerill was most recently president and chief executive officer of Mayo Medical Laboratories, a global reference laboratory operating within Mayo Clinic and the third largest provider of esoteric laboratory services in the U.S. In this role since 2006, Cockerill was responsible for driving substantial revenue growth for Mayo Medical Laboratories while also enhancing clinical testing standardization, efficiencies and quality across dozens of laboratories.

Jabil Circuit (JBL), up 4.7% following its report of better than expected fourth EPS and revenue... JD.com (JD), up 0.7% after the stock was initiated with an Outperform rating at Macquarie. LOWER: Yahoo (YHOO), down 0.6% after RBC Capital downgraded its rating on the stock to Sector Perform from Outperform, saying the risk/reward is less attractive following Alibaba's (BABA) initial public offering... HB Fuller (FUL), down 15% after reporting quarterly results and guidance that missed analyst estimates... Omnova Solutions (OMN), down 10.8% after its Q3 adjusted EPS missed expectations... LabCorp (LH) and LipoScience (LPDX) announced that they entered into a definitive merger agreement under which LabCorp would acquire LipoScience for a purchase price of $5.25 per share in cash, or a transaction value of $85.3M which represents a total enterprise value of approximately $63M. The Board of Directors of LipoScience has unanimously approved the agreement and recommended approval of the transaction by LipoScience’s stockholders. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions including the expiration or early termination of the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended, and approval by LipoScience’s stockholders. The transaction is expected to close in Q4.
