05:56 EDTDATATableau price target lowered to $65 from $92 at Jefferies
Jefferies analyst John DiFucci lowered his price target for Tableau (DATA) to $65 saying expectations for the company "finally became too great" in Q4. The analyst says that while a softening spend environment was given as a reason for the disappointing guidance, he continues to hear of a decent spending environment in the field. DiFucci wonders if the free Qlik Sense desktop (QLIK) is having an effect on Tableau. The analyst keeps a Hold rating on Tableau following the company's Q4 results.

14:26 EDTDATATableau technical comments before earnings news
With a few notable exceptions, the $80 level has held as support since October 2014. If the news is a bearish disappointment, the stock could break the $80 bound from the current price of $81.76. If the $80 level is taken out on the downside, it would be a negative for future price. Next support levels to watch below $80 as potential downside objectives would be at $78.55, $76.27, and $73.93. The 52-week low is at $71.61. If the news is a positive surprise, the following resistance levels could become upside objectives: $83.81, $85.27, $87.50, and $91.05. It would take a move above $100 to turn the longer-term trend to bullish.

11:09 EDTDATAMaxim says sell Tableau before it goes the way of Netscape
Shares of Tableau Software (DATA) are declining in late morning trading after Maxim initiated coverage with a Sell rating. NEXT NETSCAPE: Maxim analyst Nehal Chokshi started Tableau Software with a Sell rating and $70 price target, saying his channel checks indicated that Microsoft (MSFT) "has the pieces in place to render Tableau the next Netscape." Chokshi doesn't see Tableau's effective $400/year/user average selling price as sustainable, considering Microsoft's Power BI "matches the ease of use and functionality of Tableau" at an average selling price of $123/user/year. Further, since Tableau threatens Microsoft's cash cow, Office, Microsoft and its CEO, Satya Nadella, will be "highly motivated" to execute and leave Tableau as a "casualty." PRICE ACTION: Tableau is off its lows of the day, but is still trading down over 2% near $77 per share. The stock fell as low at $73.37 earlier in the session.
