JetBlue Airways Corporation reported its preliminary traffic results for March. Traffic in March increased 0.9% from March 2013, on a capacity increase of 3.7%. Load factor for March was 84.8%, a decrease of 2.3 points from March 2013. JetBlue's preliminary completion factor was 98.0% and its on-time performance was 77.2%. JetBlue's preliminary passenger revenue per available seat mile for the month of March decreased 8% year over year. March PRASM was negatively impacted by the shift in the Easter and Passover holidays from March last year.

Southwest Airlines announced that the Company flew 9.6 billion revenue passenger miles, or RPMs, in March, a 1.6% increase from the 9.4B RPMs flown in March 2013. Available seat miles, or ASMs, increased 0.8 % to 11.6B from the March 2013 level of 11.5B. The March 2014 load factor was 82.7%, compared to 82.0% in March 2013. For March passenger revenue per ASM, or PRASM, is estimated to have increased approximately one percent compared to March 2013. For the Q1 the Company flew 24.2B RPMs, compared to 23.8B RPMs flown for the same period in 2013, an increase of 1.7%. Year-to-date ASMs decreased 1.1% to 30.5B from 30.8B for the same period in 2013. The year-to-date load factor was 79.3%, compared to 77.1% for the same period in 2013.

Airline stocks are rising in a down market after Goldman Sachs raised its rating on the sector to Attractive from Neutral. WHAT'S NEW: Although airline stocks have already outperformed the market, it's not too late for investors to get involved in the sector, Goldman wrote in a note to investors earlier today. Not yet priced into the stock are higher ticket prices, more crowded planes, and a recovering U.S. consumer, according to the firm. It initiated coverage of American Airlines (AAL) with a Buy rating and upgraded its rating on JetBlue (JBLU) to Neutral from Sell. Goldman kept Buy ratings on Delta (DAL) and United Continental (UAL). PRICE ACTION: In mid-morning trading, American Airlines rose 1.25% to $37, JetBlue added 0.6% to $8.80, Delta gained 2% to $35.30, and United Continental lost 0.5% to $44.65.
