Chevron's China subsidiary has entered into production sharing contracts with China National Offshore Oil Corporation for two exploration blocks in the South China Sea’s Pearl River Mouth Basin. Chevron China Energy will hold a 100% interest in blocks 15/10 and 15/28 in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. During the exploration phase Chevron China Energy Company will be the operator of the two shallow water blocks, which in total cover an area of approximately 2,233 square miles.

Ecopetrol (EC) announces that it submitted the highest bids for three exploratory blocks in the 11th bidding round carried out yesterday by the ANP of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro. Ecopetrol has a 100% interest in the highest bids for the POT-M-567 and FZA-M-320 blocks and a 50% interest in the highest bid for the CE-M-715 block, which it submitted with Chevron (CVX) Brasil Ventures. The three blocks comprise an area of approximately 1,862 sq kilometers in the Potiguar, Foz de Amazonas and Ceara offshore basins.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs that won a $19B verdict against Chevron in 2011 for environmental damage in Ecuador are trying to withdraw from a related lawsuit that Chevron has filed because the lawyers say their clients do not have the resources to pay in a protracted legal fight with Chevron, the Wall Street Journal says. The plaintiffs won a verdict against Chevron in 2011, but the oil giant has not paid as Chevron maintains the judgement was obtained illegally, WSJ added. Reference Link
