Shares of IT security company Barracuda Networks (CUDA) are climbing after the company's fourth quarter revenue and earnings per share exceeded analysts' expectations. WHAT'S NEW: Barracuda reported fourth quarter earnings per share, excluding certain items, of 6c, compared with analysts' consensus estimate of 1c. The company's revenue was slightly higher than expected. "We made good progress in the fourth quarter across all of our markets and product categories, especially our higher growth market categories of network and application security and storage, which are becoming larger portions of our overall business," said Barracuda CEO BJ Jenkins. "During the quarter, we added over 7,900 new active subscribers, ending our fiscal year with more than 205,000 active subscribers. In addition to adding new customers, we also made good progress with our installed-base selling initiatives, accelerating growth in the number of multi-product customers," he added. ANALYST REACTION: Barrcuda's new products are enabling it to grow and the company is successfully convincing its existing customers to buy more products, wrote JMP Securities analyst Erik Suppiger in a note to investors earlier. The stock's valuation is attractive, added Suppiger, who reiterated a $43 price target and Outperform rating on the stock. OTHERS TO WATCH: Other publicly traded IT security companies include Check Point (CHKP), F5 Networks (FFIV), FireEye (FEYE), Fortinet (FTNT), Imperva (IMPV), Palo Alto (PANW), Proofpoint (PFPT), Qualys (QLYS) and Symantec (SYMC). PRICE ACTION: In early trading, Barracuda surged 8.9% to $30.15.
