08:01 EDTCG, JPMCarlyle Group names Cavanagh, Youngkin as co-presidents and co-COOs
The Carlyle Group (CG) announced that Michael J. Cavanagh and Glenn A. Youngkin will become Co-Presidents and Co-COOs. Mr. Cavanagh is currently Co-CEO of the Corporate & Investment Bank at JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM); Mr. Youngkin is a 19-year Carlyle veteran and currently COO and will add the role of Co-President. Mr. Youngkin, who is based in Washington, DC, and Mr. Cavanagh, who will be based in New York, will begin their new roles in the summer. The role of President is a new position at Carlyle.

Sankaty Advisors, LLC, the independently managed credit affiliate of Bain Capital, announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire a portfolio of loans and other securities from J.P. Morgan’s Global Special Opportunities Group. The portfolio contains mezzanine loans in North America and Europe, as well as loans and related special situations investments in Australia and across Asia, with an aggregate value of approximately $1.3B. This acquisition follows Sankaty Advisors' other recent purchases of loan portfolios from Irish Bank Resolution Capital, Lloyds Banking Group and CapitalSource. The transaction, which is expected to close by the end of 2014, is subject to borrower and regulatory approvals. Kirkland & Ellis, LLP served as legal counsel to Sankaty Advisors. J.P. Morgan advised on the sale and Davis Polk & Wardwell, LLP served as legal counsel to JPMorgan Chase. This transaction is not expected to have a material impact on JPMorgan Chase’s earnings.

Carlyle Group (CG) may soon be the only private equity firm left to settle a suit that accused it and several of its peers of conspiring to hold down deal prices and one source close to the situation said “my expectation is there will be a trial,” according to The New York Post. Bain Capital, Silver Lake and Goldman Sachs (GS) previously settled for a combined $150.5M and KKR (KKR), Blackstone (BX) and TPG Capital are expected to settle for an amount above that "within days," the report said.
