Health care information technology companies Cerner (CERN), McKesson (MCK), Allscripts (MDRX), athenahealth (ATHN), Greenway Medical Technologies (GWAY) and RelayHealth, a unit of McKesson, announced the launch of the CommonWell Health Alliance, planned to be an independent not-for-profit organization that will support universal, trusted access to health care data through seamless interoperability. The Alliance intends to be a collaborative effort of suppliers who are focused on achieving data liquidity between systems, in compliance with patient authorizations, the companies said. The Alliance will define, promote and certify a national infrastructure with common platforms and policies and also will ensure that HIT products displaying the Alliance seal are certified to work on the national infrastructure, the companies said.

Deutsche Bank estimates Cerner (CERN) could receive 20%-30% of the $4.33B Department of Defense contract awarded to the team of Cerner, Leidos (LDOS), Accenture (ACN) and their bidding group. Deutsche believes the contract also provides "significant indirect benefits" for Cerner in the marketplace. It keeps a Buy rating on the stock with an $85 price target.

NewYork-Presbyterian announced earlier a new collaboration with athenahealth. NewYork-Presbyterian, through its Physician Services Organization, will provide the NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Groups management of their physician practices via implementation of athenahealth's electronic health record, practice management, and patient engagement services for more than 800 physicians and an additional 300 licensed professionals. Initial deployment of athenahealth services will begin at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group/Hudson Valley, NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group/Queens, and NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group/Westchester with future implementation to follow in Brooklyn and other areas in the region.
