After reviewing presentation slides and speaking with experts, Stifel still expects Boston Scientific's Watchman device to be approved by the FDA, despite the cancellation of presentation of data from a trial of the device due to an embargo breach by the company. The firm thinks the data from the study was positive, and it expects the device to be approved by early 2014. It maintains a Buy rating on the shares.

Patients with Parkinson's disease using the Boston Scientific Vercise DBS, or deep brain stimulation, System showed a significant improvement in motor scores according to interim data from the VANTAGE DBS study. The Vercise DBS System incorporates multiple independent current control, which is designed to selectively stimulate targeted areas in the brain, providing physicians with fine control of stimulation. Preliminary analysis of the VANTAGE study displays approximately 60% mean improvement in motor function at six months post implant, as assessed by UPDRS III when compared to baseline.
