Residential Capital, the mortgage arm of Ally Financial, said that it wanted to proceed with its original plan to hold two auctions, one of which will be anchored by a "stalking horse" bid from Fortress Investment Group (FIG), instead of accepting a bid from Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) to buy most of its assets out of bankruptcy, reported The New York Times, citing court documents. Fortress Investment is seeking approximately $4.3B to buy distressed debt from around the world, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter. The firm is looking for a $2B private-equity structured credit fund with the rest of the balance coming from managed accounts that will invest alongside the deals, two people familiar with the plans added.
