Ball Aerospace & Technologies is part of a team selected to build the first space-based instrument to monitor major air pollutants across the North American continent for NASA's Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution, or TEMPO, mission. Led by the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, Mass., the TEMPO team will build a geostationary ultraviolet-visible spectrometer to continuously measure ozone, aerosols and other trace gases over greater North America.

Ball Corp. (BLL) has offered to divest 11 European plants to get approval from the region's regulators for its proposed acquisition of Rexam (REXMY), reports Reuters, citing sources. Nine of the plants produce beverage cans while two make can ends, said the report, adding that the divestiture proposal was submitted to the European Commission last week. Reference Link
