BlackBerry (BBRY) announced a new three-year agreement with EnStream LP, a mobile payments joint venture owned by Canadian wireless carriers Bell (BCE), Rogers (RCI) and TELUS (TU), to provide a secure platform that supports transaction services between leading banks and consumers. Under the agreement, EnStream will leverage BlackBerry's infrastructure to enable financial institutions and mobile operators to securely provision sensitive payment card credentials into any smartphone capable of near field communication.

BlackBerry announced that it has named Sandeep Chennakeshu to lead a new business unit to be called BlackBerry Technology Solutions, or BTS. The BTS business unit comprises BlackBerry's technology assets, including QNX, Project Ion, Certicom and Paratek as well as BlackBerry's patent portfolio. Blackberry CEO John Chen said, "Combining all these assets into a single business unit led by Sandeep will create operational synergies and new revenue streams, furthering our turnaround strategy."

BCE Inc. announced that it has formally commenced its offer to purchase all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Bell Aliant Inc., other than common shares held by BCE. Concurrent with the commencement of the common share offer, BCE also initiated its offer to exchange all of the issued and outstanding preferred shares of Bell Aliant Preferred Equity Inc. for newly issued preferred shares of BCE, with the same financial terms as the existing Prefco preferred shares. The offers will be open for acceptance until September 19, unless extended or withdrawn by BCE.
